In 1986 the German HD Association (Deutsche Huntington-Hilfe, DHH)
arose from an association called "Familienhilfe e.V." which was already
founded in 1970. So it is one of the first associations for
Huntington's Disease (HD) worldwide.
Today the DHH counts about 1600 members from HD affected families, care
facilities and medical professions dealing with the HD. There are
regional associations of the DHH in several German states.
The DHH sees its main function in supporting and counseling people
looking for advice. Since 1997 an agency and a helpline with two
part-time employees in Duisburg has been supporting consulters and if
needed has meditated them to a contact person or a specialist.
