About Us

Plymouth Huntington’s Service is a service specifically for people affected by Huntington’s Disease and their families, based at Mount Gould Hospital in Plymouth. Our aim is to provide support, monitoring, interventions and advice for people with HD and their families, to enable individuals to stay at home for as long as they wish, or are able to.

The Team:
Beverley Soltysiak – Specialist HD Nurse Advisor
David Harrison – Specialist HD Nurse

Leanne Walker – DeNDRoN support
Contributions from Psychiatrists

We also have access to Speech and Language Therapy, OT, Physiotherapy, Clinical Psychology and a Dietician. We work very closely with our Social Services colleagues.

Referral to our service is usually via your GP or other Health Professional. However, individuals can refer themselves, or a family member (as long as that person has agreed to the referral), by telephoning 01752 434911 or 01752 434535.

Our Service

The service provides ongoing assessment, monitoring, support and therapeutic interventions to the person with Huntington’s Disease (HD) or anyone else affected by HD in the Plymouth area. This can be provided in your home or in the Outpatients Clinic.

Activities can be carried out in groups or on an individual basis within your local community.

Training is a key aspect of what we do.

Euro HD Clinics are held once a month, and provide an opportunity for people with HD, those who belong to a family at risk of HD and caregivers to be part of a Europe wide data base and to identify people who might like to be involved in studies or clinical trials in the future. During the clinic patients complete a number of motor, behavioural and cognitive assessments with a psychiatrist and nursing staff. There is also the option of providing blood and urine samples for ‘biomarker’ information. Once enrolled, patients come on a yearly basis to complete the same assessments.
