High Q is a
private philanthropic foundation dedicated to finding therapies for
Huntington's disease (HD). Over the past seven years High Q and its affiliates
have committed more than $50 million to HD research directly and through
organizations such as the Hereditary Disease Foundation (HDF), the Huntington's
Disease Society of America (HDSA), and the Huntington Study Group (HSG). Now
High Q has established an independent presence in order to bring together
academia, industry, governmental agencies, and other funding organizations to
accelerate the search for HD therapies. | | Among
the projects High Q and its affiliates have funded is the HDF's Cure HD
Initiative (CHDI), created seven years ago to bring a fast-track
industrial approach to the translation of HD research from the
laboratory to the clinic. Since then this initiative has grown to
comprise some 130 projects with over $30 million of support. High Q
supports HD clinical research through the Huntington Project which includes a
systematic evaluation of treatments for Huntington's Disease ( SET-HD). Last
fall it was chartered as an independent public charity, called CHDI,
Inc., which is supported primarily by High Q. CHDI, Inc. operates as a
not-for-profit, virtual biotech company devoted to drug discovery and
development for HD. |
